Lenovo's ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 is a 14-inch Intel business ultrabook; Microsoft's 13-inch Surface Laptop for Business runs Snapdragon X Plus. Both target professionals who travel, but with different priorities in ports, screen and platform.
Surface figures were re-read from Microsoft Learn on 2026-11-02. ThinkPad figures come from Lenovo's PSREF PDF, which could not be machine-read for re-checking today, so they are shown as compiled earlier.

Platform and compatibility
The ThinkPad runs Windows on Intel x86, which offers the widest compatibility with legacy business software, drivers and VPN clients. The Surface runs Windows on ARM; most modern software works natively or under emulation, but specialised drivers and older tools can be a problem. Both list NPUs in the mid-40 TOPS range for Windows AI features; vendor TOPS figures are not benchmarks.
Display and portability
The ThinkPad offers a larger 14-inch screen with a 2.8K OLED 120 Hz option, and it is lighter despite the larger display (from about 986 g against 1.22 kg). The Surface's 3:2 touchscreen is smaller and dimmer on paper but adds touch.
Ports and expansion
The ThinkPad's two Thunderbolt 4/USB4 ports, two USB-A ports and HDMI 2.1 mean fewer dongles for presentations and docks. The Surface offers two USB-C ports with DisplayPort 1.4a, one USB-A and a headphone jack, and supports Surface Thunderbolt 4 docks. Wi-Fi 7 is available on both (Wi-Fi 6E or 7 on the ThinkPad).
Battery claims
Lenovo quotes MobileMark 25 and video playback figures for its best configuration; Microsoft quotes its own March 2025 tests. Because the methods differ, they are not directly comparable.
